Dukungan Teknis Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Dan Ubuntu 6.06 LTS Server Telah Berakhir

Hampir 36 bulan sejak tanggal 28 April 2008, Canonical telah mengumumkan rilis Ubuntu 8.04 LTS yang dijuluki Hardy Heron.

Ubuntu 8.04 LTS adalah rilis LTS (Long Term Support) kedua dari Canonical dengan menbawa fitur seperti GNOME 2.22.1, kernel Linux 2.6.24.3 (dengan dukungan dynticks dan scheduler proses baru), X.Org 7.3, PulseAudio 0.9.10, dukungan untuk iSCSI, PolicyKit 0.7 juga integrasi ActiveDirectory dan KVM.

We are sorry to announce today that starting with May 12th, 2011, Canonical will stop "feeding" the Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (Hardy Heron) Desktop edition with security or critical fixes, and software updates. The Server edition of Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (Hardy Heron) will continue to be actively supported with bug fixes and security updates.

Therefore, we strongly recommend upgrading your Ubuntu 8.04 LTS workstations to the current version, Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat), or wait three more weeks for the brand-new and amazing Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal), due for release on April 28th, 2011.

Dukungan teknis Ubuntu 6.06 LTS Edisi Server juga berakhir

Nasib yang sama dialami pengguna Ubuntu 6.06 LTS edisi server. Lima tahun masa dukungan sejak pertama kali duluncurkan 1 Juni 2006, Ubuntu 6.06 LTS (Dapper Drake) telah terpenuhi.

Dapper Drake merupakan rilis penting, karena pada saat itulah Kubuntu menjadi bagian dari keluarga Ubuntu. Edisi Long Term Support dirilis setiap dua tahun sekali dan mendapat dukungan teknis selama 3 tahun untuk edisi desktop dan 5 tahun pada edisi server.

Ubuntu 6.06 LTS adalah rilis LTS pertama, diikuti oleh Ubuntu 8.04 pada April 2008 dan Ubuntu 10.04 pada April 2010. Jalur upgrade dari Ubuntu 6.06 Server LTS adalah melalui Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Server.
